A good parent takes the time…

Today during a snack/happy hour/break I witnessed the bartender’s sister bring in the bartender’s son. The bartender’s sister had to do something else with her own kid or whatever.

While continuing to do her duty at a busy, busy, bar; the bartender made a point to check on her son whether it be a “hey how’s it going” kind of gesture or going over there and checking to see what he was doing.

A little bit later once the tables in the bar area started to leave her son asked if he could go over and sit at the low tables with his stuff. The bartender while still being busy made it a point to go over there probably on average every 5 to 10 minutes to see how he was doing and take at minimum 1 to 2 minutes to check on him and make sure he was doing good. I do not know if the bartender is a single mother or a mother who couldn’t find a babysitter for this period of time. But I did feel the fact that she made it a point to check on him and see him frequently even though she was busy is a huge, great, plus to her character and motherhood.

In recognition of what she was doing and all I paid my bill and left a generous tip without any real notification as to where it came from. I was not out for recognition, and I did, however, want to recognize her efforts because I thought what she was doing was pretty awesome.
