A good parent takes the time…

Today during a snack/happy hour/break I witnessed the bartender’s sister bring in the bartender’s son. The bartender’s sister had to do something else with her own kid or whatever.

While continuing to do her duty at a busy, busy, bar; the bartender made a point to check on her son whether it be a “hey how’s it going” kind of gesture or going over there and checking to see what he was doing.

Cycling Zen and The Call of the Ride

I don’t practice zazen when cycling but once I get going it is close enough for me.

The aim of zazen is just sitting, that is, suspending all judgmental thinking and letting words, ideas, images and thoughts pass by without getting involved in them.

When I was a child, I cycled as a child. I rode with friends; bullies chased me; I rode downhill on insanely steep hills just for the feel of the wind rushing past me, the excitement of it, and feeling the rush of riding the edge of disaster.

If you were hauling ass down that hill and wiped out, you were going to get messed up.

When I got older, I began just to ride, anywhere just to get away from things, and to get places. When we moved to Highlands Ranch, CO. I traveled to explore and I rarely ever thought about what it would take to get home. Continue reading “Cycling Zen and The Call of the Ride”

And Santa’s Midnight Run

The Librarians: A series on TNT based on… well I will let the description from Wikipedia tell you:

The series follows four people who were chosen by Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) to become a new team of Librarians in order to solve impossible mysteries, recover powerful artifacts, and fight against supernatural threats

Before Christmas they aired an episode that was Christmas themed, it was named “And Santa’s Midnight Run”. In it they refer to the phenomena of Santa as a being that is an avatar of goodwill. Absorbing goodwill throughout the year and then Christmas night he flies around the Earth releasing all he absorbed.

“So that’s why everyone always gets cranky around the holidays, because we are running low on goodwill..”

“Oh shiny balls, yes.”
